Some things stand out from our childhood. Summer trips. Outdoor games. Beloved pets. Family get-togethers. But what about food? I know you’ll agree there are a few that brings back waves of nostalgia in one single bite. Mine is Chicken Ham & Cheese! Growing up, an afternoon treat with the family often involved this snackable sandwich.
Easy? Yes. Delicious? Absolutely!

Preparing this sandwich took less than 10 minutes for our family of 15! Cooking sure was one of the best bonding experiences we had as a family. No better way spending hot and humid days than devouring these yummy snack with an ice cold drink!
What kind of cheese goes well with Ham & Cheese? A ham & cheese sandwich can be made using a variety of cheeses, although a semi-hard or natural hard cheese is the traditional choice.
Try California Orange Cheddar Cheese. It balances out the salty flavors of the ham.
Cheese is a Nutritional Powerhouse

Cheese isn’t just a treat; it also contains vitamins and minerals our body needs. A serving
contains many essential nutrients including 14% DV Protein, 15% DV Calcium, 15% DV
Phosphorus, 15% DV Niacin, and 45% DV Pantothenic Acid, and 20% DV Vitamin B12.
As a Sports Nutritionist Dietitian and Elite Fitness Trainer, I recognize the nutritional benefits that cheese brings to the table. Dairy products like cheese, has high quality Protein that plays a role in muscle maintenance and repair, while Calcium helps build strong bones and keep the nerves healthy. Vitamin D also helps keep the bones strong and support immune function. For improved performance, this Ham & Cheese sandwich is an awesome snack that you can enjoy before working out.
How to Prepare a Ham and Cheese Sandwich
How I prepare my sandwich depends on what bread I’m using. I prefer freshly baked croissants. Simply slice the bread in half, then layer with slices of cheese and your preferred cooked ham (I’m using Chicken Ham by the way). You may pop it in the oven or microwave really quick to melt the cheese, but that’s not necessary. You may also add veggies like tomato and lettuce. If you’re watching your calorie intake, leave out the dressings. It tastes great with just the ham and the cheese!

Giving birth to my son gave me a whole new perspective about life and family. I couldn’t wait to make wonderful memories with him! Fond memories of childhood he can look back on. Just like his mom and her beloved Ham & Cheese.
